Mind Magic & the Crown Chakra

In times like these, when the world is shifting rapidly and asking so much of us, examining the landscape of your mind is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. May this blog inspire the expansion of potential in your thinking & support you with transmuting confusion into clarity, doubt into empowered vision, and stretch the edges of your thinking.

Read on to learn more about the magic of your own mind.

The Wisdom of the Chakras

The Chakra System is a foundational teaching in yogic philosophy that offers a map of how life force energy organizes & expresses itself through the human experience. Even though wisdom teachings of the Chakras comes from a tradition thousands of years old, it still very much holds guidance & inspiration for these times we are living in now.

The Chakras offer a framework for coming home to our wholeness, over & over again, which is a practice we should all be doing. Working with the chakras offers a holistic model to support, heal & cultivate all aspects of being human, such as our need for safety & connection, our capacity for love & expression, and our longing for purpose, vision & spiritual connection.

The Chakra System consists of 7 main energy centers located along your spine & central nervous system. These energy vortexes receive, assimilate & express life force energy and in doing so, influence various aspects of your body, mind & spirit.

When the flow of energy through a chakra is balanced, meaning it’s not blocked or excessive, you are able to expiernace a higher vibrational expression of that chakra. When a chakra is out of balance, there’s dis-ease, which shows up as a lack of vitality, the inability to fully liberate your spirit and/or manifest your fullest being.

The essence of working with the chakras is to balance the flow of energy through each individual chakra & also through the system as a whole. This process of individual & collective balancing is an on-going experience of homeostasis that happens throughout our lifetime.

Intro to the Crown Chakra

This blog focuses on the Crown Chakra, which is located at the top of your head and connected to your brain, your mind & your capacity for expanded awareness. In Sanskrit, this chakra is called Sahasrara, which means "ultimate source of awakening". This chakra is often represented by a thousand petaled lotus flower, forever unfolding towards consciousness.

The Crown Chakra is a two way gate. It opens upward, outward & beyond ourselves to the Infinite, liberating us into transcendental states of being. It also opens inward & downward manifesting thought into form, bringing divinity into the manifest world. Working with the Crown Chakra is a powerful way to activate your whole chakra system, and expand the way you view, understand & participate with the world.

What I share with you here is an integration of teachings I’ve had over the years, which has been heavily influenced by psychology, shamanic studies, art therapy & my own healing journey. This blog shares art work I've created over the years as I've worked with my own Crown Chakra.

On a Spiritual level, the Crown Chakra represents transcendence & universal consciousness. This is where we disconnect from illusion & attachments found in the lower chakras and open up to our Universal Identity. It's here where we merge with Source, God, Spirit, Divine Intelligence ... or what ever you call it. It's here in the Crown Chakra where we expand & merge into our oneness with all that is.

On a Physical level, the Crown Chakra governs the brain, the master organ of your Central Nervous System. This energy center is intricately connected to the cerebral cortex which influences your ability to have mental powers & intellectual capacity.

On a Mental level, the Crown Chakra deals with dimensions of the mind. The element for the Crown Chakra is Thought, which is one of the most powerful elemental forces to gain mastery over. Thoughts are not just ideas that pass through us, they are energetic patterns that shape our perception, guide our choices & construct the reality we live in.

One of the core ways to work with the Crown Chakra is to bring awareness to the quality of your mind. It's estimated that you have over 80,000 thoughts a day, many of which are on auto-pilot outside your awareness. These thoughts in repetition create your beliefs & your beliefs define how you interpret the world, and therefore create the reality in which you live.

Beliefs can be formed from your own experience, or accepted as truth based on what others have told you, such as parents, school, church, authority figures, etc. Over time, we internalize these beliefs without questioning them & they become the experience we live on repeat.

Our beliefs are often so embedded in us that we fail to even recognize their existence, and we fall into blind obedience to the patterns of our thinking. This can keep us stuck in old ways of being & prevent us from expanding and evolving. If we are not aware, past experiences can blind us from new opportunities available now, and in doing so, limit our growth, creativity & potential.

Witnessing Mental Conditioning

Very rarely do we see the present moment through fresh, new eyes. More often, we view life through the well-worn filters of our judgments and beliefs, assessing whether something is good or bad, right or wrong, or in conflict or aligned with our worldview.

This habitual lens of thinking becomes a mental echo chamber for our living model, reinforcing the familiar and filtering out what doesn’t fit in. In doing so, the Crown Chakra becomes closed, expansive thinking is limited, possibility shrinks, and so does our capacity to fully live, create & evolve.

Working with the Crown Chakra calls for you to witness the quality of your mind and be curious about the beliefs that shape your perceptions. It calls for you to notice where you may be clinging to inherited ideas or outdated narratives that no longer serve your expanded fullness. Honest & on-going evaluation of your thoughts & belief patterns supports you with identifying areas of your mind ready for healing, release or expansion.

When we become conscious of our thought patterns, we gain the power to shift them, and with that shift, our reality begins to transform. Change your thoughts, change your reality.

Journaling Prompts

Here are some Crown Chakra journaling prompts to help you gently observe your mind and open space for more expansive ways of thinking.

  • What recurring thought or belief has been circling in your mind lately? How does it influence the way you feel, respond, or make choices?

  • Where do you think this belief originated? Did you choose it consciously or did you inherit it from family, culture or past experiences?

  • What might become possible if you released or reimagined this belief? How could your life begin to shift?

  • What kinds of thoughts make you feel more open, grounded, or connected to your higher self? How can you invite more of those thoughts into your daily awareness?

  • What does mental freedom look like for you? What is one small step you can take toward that today?

As you go throughout your normal day, pay attention to your mind. What thoughts & beliefs are you aware of? Find time to sit with the structures that define your reality. Explore them with curiosity & compassion. Are your beliefs expansive or constrictive? Are they supporting your growth, or limiting your potential?

You may find that by simply noticing & naming your beliefs with presence, that you begin to create more space for light, possibility & alignment to come into your life.

The Magician Archetype

One of the archetypes I like to work with in the Crown Chakra is The Magician. The Magician’s mind is open, curious & expansive. They don’t just see what is, they envision what could be. The Magician is able to focus the mind, shape their beliefs & align intention with action.

The Magician reminds us that beliefs are not fixed truths; they are energetic patterns that can be reshaped & worked with in magical ways. The Magician has the power to transmute limiting beliefs into empowering ones. By embracing the Magician’s approach to Mind Magic, you too can transform your inner dialogue from self-doubt to self-trust & from contraction to expansion.

If you would like to work with the archetype of the Magician & practice Mind Alchemy in heart-centric community, I recommend attending my upcoming on-line Creative Arts Playshop April 26, 2025.

The theme of this event is Thought Alchemy, the Magician & the Crown Chakra, a powerful trifecta for those ready to transform limiting beliefs into liberating truths. Through guided visualization, journaling, creative art-making, and community reflection, we’ll activate the Magician archetype to support your inner work with clarity, playfulness & sacred intent. No art experience needed; just bring your open mind, curious heart & willingness to explore

Developing a Meditation Practice

One of the ways you can start now to cultivate your Crown Chakra is through meditation. Meditation invites you to pause outward activity, cultivate stillness in the body, and rest in the present moment. In this way, you are able to be in the practice of witness consciousness which allows you to better see the quality of your mind, your beliefs & what you have attachment to.

Contrary to what some people think, the goal of meditation is not to stop your thoughts. You will have thoughts, that’s part of being human. The goal is to cultivate witness consciousness, which is the ability to observe your thoughts as they arise, without attaching to them, reacting to them, or following them down the rabbit hole.

As you cultivate this practice, you are better able to recognize the impermanent nature of thought. You are able to see how each one rises, moves & eventually passes. Beneath this steady current of thought lies a deeper stillness; a quiet presence untouched by the swirl of the mind. In this spacious of stillness, you may discover a sense of inner peace & grace that aligns you with a deeper truth. This deeper truth can then be utilized as a north star of guidance as you navigate the complexities of these times we are living in.

To nourish your Crown Chakra, I encourage you to cultivate a daily meditation practice. Set a timer. Even 10–15 minutes is a beautiful starting point. Then sit in stillness, with your eyes closed, attune to your breath and notice your thoughts. As thoughts distract you, keep coming back to your breath, over & over again.

Many people find it helpful to use an anchor during meditation, such as the breath, a repeated mantra or chant, or even a simple sound or visualization. These anchors help guide us gently back to center when the mind begins to wander, which will happen many times throughout a meditation. This returning to center, again and again, is the practice.

The Crown Chakra reminds us that our thoughts are not just fleeting ideas; they are creative currents that shape how we experience reality.

The Magician archetype offers us tools for transformation such as awareness, intention & the courage to rewrite our beliefs in ways that better serve our fullness & possibility.

Mastering the element of Thought is a sacred practice that empowers you to move from reaction to creation, from illusion to clarity & from limitation to possibility.

My prayer is this blog inspires you to build a more conscious relationship with your thoughts. To not just notice them, but to shape them with care and clarity. Your beliefs matter. Your mindset matters. The way you think has power.

The world doesn’t need more noise, it needs more wisdom. It needs people like you, willing to engage the Crown Chakra, activate your inner Magician, and bring your fullest presence and creativity to this moment in history.

If you’re ready to deepen your apprenticeship with the Magician within, I invite you to join me for this month’s Creative Arts Playshop, a soulful space to explore your thoughts, work with archetypes, and reshape the architecture of your mind through art, community & intentional transformation.
